Opening Ceremony
Ms Eiko Furukawa will sing the national anthemn at the opening ceremony.
Eiko Furukawa
Eiko Furukawa was born in Munich, Germany into a family of musicians, but she grew up in Kanagawa, Japan, just outside of Tokyo. She started to play the violin at the age of 4. At the age of 17, she became a student of Professor Yuko Tsuji and graduated later from the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music.
In the summer of 2001, Eiko Furukawa studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Professor Lillian Sukis and from 2002 – 2004 she was a student at Malmö Music University under Britta Johansson and Conny Antonov. In February 2004, she performed as soloist in Nils-Petter Ankarblom’s Fireflies with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, and she has also taken the part of Armida in Händel’s opera, Rinaldo, in Malmö and Copenhagen.
Since 2006, Eiko Furukawa has been studying at the Royal Danish Music Conservatorium in Copenhagen under the guidance of Hanna Hjort and Ulrich Stærk. She is also contributing to Peter Spissky’s Baroque Project.
