Copenhagen Sakura Festival Subcommittee

I. Event

1. Kick-off Reception

(1) Time and Place

- 17:00-19:00 on Friday May 25th at Kunstindustrimuseet/Danish Museum of Art & Design

Note: The Kick-off reception of the Copenhagen Sakura Festival was held in combination with the opening reception of Ms. Masu Yamamoto’s Kimono exhibition at Kunstindustrimuseet

400 invitation cards were issued and about 250 guests attended.

Japanese spinning tops: Mr. Koichiro Biwa

2. Copenhagen Sakura Festival 2008

(1) Time and Place

10:00-17:00 on Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27 at Langelinie Park

(2) Main Guests

- Culture and Leisure Mayor Ms. Pia Allerslev

It is estimated that about 7,000-8,000 people attended the festival over 2 days.

(3) Stage Program and Venue Layout

Note: Details of the booth are as follows:

  • 1. Tea ceremony: May 26 by Ms. Setsuko Totomi
  • May 27 by Chaya no Kai headed by Ms. Nobuko Hermansen

    Note: Byakudan no Kai headed by Ms. Ayako Onodera did a tea ceremony demonstration at outside on May 26.

  • 2. Spinning Tops: Demonstration of Japanese spinning tops and colouring of tops by Mr. Koichiro Biwa
  • 3. Wireworks: Demonstration and sale of Japanese wireworks by Mr. Masaharu Kojima
  • 4. Paper doll: Paper doll sale by Washi Ningyo no Kai headed by Ms. Tomoko Gucfa
  • 5. Seidokan: Information booth of Seidokan by Mr. Peter Martin Fogh
  • 6. Kite: Information booth of Japanese kites, display of kites.
  • 7. Origami: Origami demonstration and workshop by Ms. Machiko Iwasaki
  • 8. Restaurant Kyoto (2 booths): Sale of Japanese foods and drinks
  • 9. Candy: Demonstration and sale of Japanese candy by Ms. Masami Kojima
  • 10. Embroidery: Demonstration and sale of Japanese embroidery by Ms. Mari Nakai
  • 11. Wood carving: Sale of Japanese woodcarving by Ms. Reiko Ito
  • 12. Sakura Committee & Sponsors: Information on Sakura Festival by Sakura Committee, Distribution of Japan-related brochures by the Japanese Embassy, Display by DNP and Bioenner.
  • 13. Nippon Sport: Sale of Japan-related goods by Nippon Sport
  • 14. PR tent: PR of Kochi Prefecture, Japan including tasting of Kochi sweets and sake.

  • II. Statement of Accounting

    Regarding the income and expenditure, please see the Statement of Accounts.

    There are 20 sponsors and total income is 108, 730 DKK and total expenditure is 92,690.35 DKK. There are 9 other contributors. As of June 20, 2008, the Committee’s remaining budget is 16,039.65 DKK.

  • 6. Activity report of the Copenhagen Sakura Committee
  • (1) Lunch hosted by H.E. Ambassador of Japan Mr. Masaki Okada at 12:30 on September 4, 2007 at the Ambassador’s residence

    Setting up of the Copenhagen Sakura Festival Committee was discussed.

    (2) Working lunch meeting at 12:30 on November 30, 2007 at the Embassy of Japan

    Outline of the Copenhagen Sakura Festival was explained by the City of Copenhagen and the Japanese Embassy.

    (3) Working meeting at 15:00 on February 6, 2008 at the Embassy of Japan

    Rules of Copenhagen Sakura Festival were discussed and adopted. Subcommittee members were decided.

    (4) Copenhagen Sakura Festival Logo selection

    Subcommittee members and 2 representatives from NET travel, the sponsor of the Copenhagen Sakura Festival Logo Competition, gathered at 12:15 on February 13, 2008 and selected 3 logos among about 50 logos. Later the Committee members voted among the selected 3 logos, and the best logo was decided on February 23, 2008.

    (5) Information session for stage performers and booth users of the Copenhagen Sakura Festival at 10:30 on April 8 at Copenhagen Municipality Office

    Stage programs, booth allocations and other matters related to the festival were discussed.
